Let's make a movieWe're in the movie business. And you're invited. Over the next few months we'll be making a series of short films - but we need your help.
The first episode discusses ways and times we manage not to self harm. It's a skills-based peer support video, featuring personal narratives and distress tolerance tips. So, how do you keep yourself safe? What works? You don't have to self disclose to join in - we need storyboards, camera and editing help too. Lived experience is the only experience you need to join the project. |

Empowerment ProjectAmy shares a very personal description of her childhood and the influence it still has. The poem she's written discusses her early trauma and later issues with controlled eating, self injury and depression.
If you think the topics may be difficult, best to watch this one when you're feeling strong and supported. Why not check out our skills-based videos below to see if there's anything that might help in the moment? |
Overcoming the struggleFor Amy, keeping herself safe from self injury is about connection. For this animal lover, it's all about sharing time with her furry buddies, distracting from disturbing thoughts, and sharing being in the moment.
In her skills video (opposite) she also describes the importance of her work as Girl Guiding British Youth Council Delegation Chair. |

Emily shares her story of hope and recoveryEmily shares her top tips for keeping yourself safe. Unsurprisingly, she's mapped her skills suggestions onto the acronym PANDAS - because this girl SERIOUSLY loves pandas! If you can't see how these lovable fur babies might relate to self care - give the video a watch. It'll all become clear.

What a journey!Emily's recovery journey is nothing short of inspirational. Here, she shares her deeply personal struggle with self injury and the turning point in her life, when she knew she needed to get help.
As her skills video (above) shows, she's come such a long way since the very dark days she shares (opposite). We, her friends, couldn't be more proud of all the hard work she's done (and is still doing) to learn who she is and what she wants out of life. When it comes to mental health, Emily is taking control. |
Skills to avoid self injuryGary's heartfelt message is of one hope. In the first half of the movie, he shares the skills he uses - every single day - to keep himself safe. In the second half, he shares the mental and physical health barriers he's overcome to become a HOPE group leader and, as he puts it, "a proper human". His story begins in addiction and self injury. If these topics are difficult for you, please only watch at times you feel safe and supported.

We'd love to hear your story... As a new service users group, we see creation of helping tools for others in distress as a key part of our work. It's also a lot of fun. The group is meeting at Falmouth University, and filming starts in the first week of March. |
